Just on my mom's side, there are over 190 of us. My mother's generation escaped Vietnam in1975 (25 years ago) and dispersed all over the world, with many coming to the States. I am forever grateful to my family and I just want to commemorate how far we've come from having nothing but each other.
Growing up, I was never as appreciative of the fact that so many of us are so different and amazing in our own ways. I didn't take advantage of getting to know everyone as much as possible. Now, as families have moved and expanded, I want to put together something that can keep us connected.
These are portraits of my family thus far. My mother is the youngest of thirteen children, and one adopted. I intend to include everyone.
The rules for this project are simple:
1) I meet everyone and take their portraits. I will travel anywhere and everywhere and do my best to accommodate your schedule. The portrait itself only takes a few minutes, but of course any time to catch up and connect would be excellent.
2) The portraits are to be taken in closest proximity in time to each other as possible (some exceptions apply). The idea is to get a "snapshot" of a period in time of our family. As the number of family members expands and contracts, it's important to keep in mind that we all continue to grow and change, and I want to capture where people are in a given moment.
Lastly, if you would like to help further with this project, I'd be grateful for any help on travel costs. At the moment I intend to pay for everything out of pocket, but any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Please reach out if you're willing!
